TBT - The official trailer is out for "Haywire," an upcoming film starring Strikeforce fighter Gina Carano.

The movie, directed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh, hits theaters in January 2012.

In addition to Carano, who makes her silver-screen debut, the film also features notables such as Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Ewan McGregor, Bill Paxton and Channing Tatum.

"Haywire" focuses on freelance covert operative Mallory Kane (Carano), who is double-crossed by her handlers. She then must allude an international manhunt and return to the U.S. to protect her family and enact her revenge.

The project famously delayed Carano's once-thriving fighting career. One of the biggest names in women's MMA, the 29-year-old now hasn't fought since an August 2009 loss to Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos that ended her undefeated run in the sport.

Following filming, Carano, of course, had been booked to fight Sarah D'Alelio in April during a Strikeforce show in Houston. But the fight, which would have been the first female bout under Strikeforce since the UFC acquired it earlier this year, was scratched when (despite clearance from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation) Carano's doctor wouldn't allow her to compete for undisclosed reasons.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, though, said she eventually will return to the cage.

In the meantime, Carano recently attended Comic-Con in San Diego to begin promoting "Haywire."
