 TBT - Sebuah drama Asia baru dari negeri ginseng, Korea hadir kembali di Indosiar. Drama satu ini istimewa karena tidak hanya merupakan drama saeguk (drama periode sejarah kuno) namun juga mengandung unsur-unsur modern. Seperti halnya seorang pelayan istana yang kelak menjadi selir raja ini ternyata bisa bertindak sebagai seorang detektif yang menyelidiki kasus kejahatan dengan pengetahuan forensik ala CSI.Drama ini berlatar pada masa dinasti Joseon (Chosun), tepatnya pada masa pemerintahan Raja Suk-jong (diperankan aktor Ji Jin-hee). Raja ini memiliki permaisuri, Ratu In-hyeon (Park Ha-sun), namun juga memiliki seorang selir yang bernama Lady Jang (Lee So-yeon). Tidak seperti Ratu In-hyeon yang baik hati, Lady Jang ini sangat haus kekuasaan dan tidak segan-segan menyingkirkan siapapun yang dianggap menghalangi ambisinya. Namun drama ini sesuai judulnya Dong Yi Jewel In The Crown lebih memusatkan kisahnya pada seorang wanita cantik bernama Dong Yi (Han Hyo-joo). Ia pertama kali masuk ke istana sebagai seorang dayang istana dan kemudian meraih kepercayaan Ratu In-hyeon. Dalam perjalanannya di istana, Dong Yi memperlihatkan kemampuan yang sangat brilian seperti bisa menyelidiki kasus kejahatan yang terjadi di istana. Tidak heran jika Raja pun jatuh cinta sehingga Dong Yi diangkat sebagai seorang selir raja.  What was not so much discussed is that Abedin is a Muslim woman. Muslim women according to Qu'ran are not to marry outside of Muslim men. Although, Abedin is far from the first Muslim woman to do this, it saddens the community to see it. Why? The Qu'ran explicitly states that women are not to marry non-Muslim men. Islam is patriarchal so the child's religion comes from the father not the mother as in Judaism. It is believed that the child may lose their religion if the woman marries outside of the Muslim community, although the central point for this is that it is explicitly forbidden in Qu'ran. One may think that Muslims hold the attitude in the Abedin situation as one as "I told you so." But, this could not be further from the reality. There may be a few who jest at her personal choice. Just as there are infidelities in the broader community, infidelity also occurs in the Muslim community. The difference however, is that now she has chosen a path where she is alone. No one can hold Weiner to the community or religious standards of a Muslim or Islam. Only Muslims can be held to a Muslim standard and Weiner, a professed Jew, must be judged by his own beliefs. Abedin's personal choice leaves the community limited in being able to help out in her situation other than to say to get out of that situation. Islam is not all about personal choices. Muslims also have a communal responsibility. Although there have been many talks about Women in Islam or Men in Islam. The fact is that it is just not accurate to discuss these in silos. The structure of the Muslim community is one that is reliant on the other. Individualism only exists in accountability with Allah and personal action. There is also responsibility to community from the atmosphere to making sure no one goes hungry. A man's role in Islam coexists with a woman's role.
